Over the years RCM Fareast has been very blessed with the wonderful people who bring extraordinary talent to our organization. Two of our board members Archt. Neal Punsalan and Engr. Carlo Cachero bring high level of professionalism and experience to our business. We are grateful to have this expertise available to our clients.

Archt. Neal is very involved in groups within the architecture community, from contributing as an architectural liceneurate exam reviewer at theUniversity of Mindanao to being actively involved with the (UAP) United Architects of the Philippines Kadayawan Dabaw Chapter's Pet Project - The Department of Health (DOH) / Davao Medical Center (DMC). Other involvement in the government sector is with the Department of Tourism(DOT).

Neal is very involved in groups within the architecture community, from contributing as an exam evaluator

Innovation is the key to creating new boundaries with in the collaboration and design business. Over the years we have established that innovation does not necessarily mean additional costs. Through our design and collaboration work we are continually looking at ways to improve and innovate in conjunction with our working partners.

NZ Wood

Recently at Citi Hardware store in Davao we witnessed the launch to the Philippines market of New Zealandpine. This is a very versatile product that brings freshness to the way indoor out door living can be enhanced. The stunning quality of this appealing wood is that it is guaranteed termite free for 15 yeas. It is commonly know that the product will last for 50 years with out a termite attack. Now that’s big news in the Philippines and other countries too.

What has Neal been doing?

Hello, this is Rey Mante from RCM Fareast Design and Build. We have a mutual colleague and as I move around the country, a number of people ask me how my associate Archt. Neal Punsalan is doing. So I decided that the best thing to do was to include an update on his activities in our newsletter.

In case you don’t know me, I am the Chief Excecutive Officer of RCM Fareast Design and Build. I meet Neal when we were both working on the Davao International Airport Development. I was in awe of the work and the experience Neal had, so I asked him to join me as my Consultant and eventually the Chief Architect.

As the Chief Architect in RCMFDnB, Archt. neal as we fondly call him, is responsible for coordinating with the six disciplines we have within our company. Currently a good portion of our work is in design collaboration. We are working on the design and construction of hotel chains in the U.S.A., and have been doing this for a decade now.

When Neal came to our company, we were a small team of 8 people. With the vision we both shared, of giving local professionals the opportunity to work internationally, our business started to flourish to where we now have 40 plus staff totally committed to design collaboration work and now successfully diverting to local design and construction.

So what has Neal been doing over the last few years?

It would be fair to go back a while. Archt. Neal was The Dean of Architecture at the University of Assumption in San Fernando, Pampanga. He has been accredited to the turnaround of the College of Architecture being a flag ship of the University of the Assumption.

Neal shifted to Davao City from Manila where he worked on high end residential land design work for Robinson Land. We meet when he was the Senior Architect of Leandro V. Locsin and Partners on the Davao International Airport Project. This work consisted in the design of the new terminal covering all the buildings for a Category 1 international airport, which is now fully operational.

Over the years Neal has enjoyed many wonderful experiences working on projects in Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, U.S.A, Singapore, Qatar, as well as in Brunei Darussallam. I love hearing him talk about his most fascinating project, that was the design and building of the Palace for the Sultan of Brunei. This spanned a four year design/construction period.

Neal is an active corporate member of the United Architects of the Philippines Kadayawan-Dabaw Chapter and the Philippine Institute of Architects Greater Davao Section and assists in the examination process of aspiring architects being a Reviewer at the University of Mindanao for the architects licensurate examinations.

Within the RCMFDnB, Neal is very active in the expansion program of our business into various states with in the USA. In fact you may be able to help Neal and our company. Hello and welcome to our monthly newsletter. Thank you for being part of our extended family

Manila

Over the last two weeks of May I spent time in Manila a developing some business through our office there. We have a group of enthusiastic practitioners based in Manila and it is a delight to be working closely with them.

Back to School

With many families seeing their children going back to school or college this month, it is worth while to talk about the education of our own minds. Children have 60%.of the vocabulary by age 4. 80% of their character is formed by age 7. When we leave school many people think their education is finished when in fact it is really just commencing.

Scholarship Team

While in Manila I was associating with our team of three staff from our Davao office who are in the RCM Scholarship program at the University of the Philippines in Dilman, Quezon City. It is so rewarding to see the developments ofRoy, Paulo and Archie.

Wisdom

Recently a new book The Steps to Success was released. The book is dedicated to the development of the mind. It states that wisdom is the key to all success. The wealthiest man who every to lived was King Solomon? He is credited with having outstanding wisdom. The main ingredient of wisdom is the ability to rethink what is going wrong and be able to change the thought into a forward thinking. This one ability, which requires commitment, is the start to having brilliance and wisdom.

Neal Punsalan has been a cornerstone of RCM since its inception. Besides being active in a number of Architectural associations, Neal has been involved in many interesting projects both in the Philippines and overseas. Fathers’ Day

A very Happy Fathers Day to all Dads. We salute the roles that Fathers play. Leadership is a vital role in all aspects of life, in the home, business, and the community. It is not what we say that people follow, but what we do that impacts those around us.

Exciting Projects

Much of our recent work has been overseas particularly in the USA . Right now we are actively involved in development projects in Manila and Perth along with our associates in the USA . We have also been involved in looking at a huge family run project that encompasses many development facets in Davao .

Class is just confidence dressed in humility. It keeps its word, its temper, and its friends. It has a steady eye, a steady nerve, a steady tongue, and steady habits.

It’s silent when it has nothing to say, thoughtful when it judges, and it’s always first to make amends when it is wrong.

Class doesn’t run scared. It is sure footed, committed, and handles whatever comes along.

Class has a sense of humor. It knows that a good laugh is often the best lubricant for oiling the machinery of human relations

Growing up in a loud crowd will actually make someone become a loud person they say, but what happened to me was actually the opposite because i grew up shy & silent. As years go by, I manage to outgrew the not so pleasant character. I always believe that if you have the will to learn something you can really be good at it.

I'm Churchill Brizuela, just like everybody else I also have dreams & goals in life. I graduated in University of Mindanao with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Architecture. I sent my college tears begins just a typical student & a typical person, but as i matured i hated just typical i wan,t to know more than what i already knew & wanna learn more than what I already learned. I want to be the best that i can be, but of course with my feet on the group.

I am able to improve my skills because of the work that I have. I'm very thankful that even if I started with nothing, I can now say to myself that I've learned a lot of things because of the kind of works & responsibilities that I'm handling. I am able to build my confidence to the level that not imagine of me to become.

Now, I'm still learning things that can help me to be really good at my craft. I've learn to embrace criticism & comments each day, I am living my life thankful to God of having a supported & loving family,hood health, good job, & happy life. People not really be contented on what they have, they say but we should to appreciate every blessing that comes our way.

R.C.M. Far East was created to meet a specific market need in design collaboration. The founder, engineer Rey Mante has experience in working on a number of successful projects within the Philippines.

While involved in the Davao International Airport project, Rey teamed up with architect Neil Punsalan who has extensive experience in working on large projects in The Royal Palace of Brunei, various high-rise structures in Makati, Robinson Highlands in Davao and Nino Aquino International Airport 1.

Today the company enjoys vibrant growth in design and collaboration on several joint ventures with USA affiliate companies building hotel and commerical properties.

Currently there is a dedicated staff of 50 professionals covering all the disciplines for international design collaboratioin projects.

Rey is a family man with 3 children and is actively involved in Couples for Christ Community and Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers.
Having a passion in agriculture has lead Rey to embark into investing in the Palm Olive industry along with several commercial development programmes in Davao.

Rey is fortunate in having Neil Punsalan who is a member of United Architects of Philippines (UAP) and Philippine Institute of Architects (PIA).
Neil plays a major role in R.C.M. as a member of the team and key architectural advisor to Rey.

Business News

In this current economic climate we often get asked “ How is Business going?”. It is rewarding for us to say that our design & collaboration work that we are doing is going along nicely. We are extremely busy with 3 major projects happening with in the USA, as well as local projects.

What are we doing?

Over the last three years we have place a large emphasis with-in our bushiness to bring an international element to all our disciplines. We were so blessed when we started our design and collaboration operation. We are working in conjunction with several USA based firms, designing and guiding the building hotels. This work continues to grow and is now a large part of our daily routine.

The Local Market

We are also involved in developing the presence of R.C.M. in the Philippines. We have a group of fine architects who have had worthy experience in the design work. Currently we are working on a number of houses and commercial design work in Davao.

Expanding

One year ago we had around 30 staff involved in our operation. Because of the work we are doing with our international clients, along with the current Davao projects, we have increased our employee numbers to 50. This is allowing us to handle the additional work load that we are enjoying.

New office

In June we will be moving our office to accommodate the additional staff we have engaged over the last few months. When details that are fully finalized, we will advise you of where we are moving to.

Scholarships

As part of the development of professionalism with in RCM Far East we have 3 of our staff studying for higher honors in Manila under our scholarship program at the University of the Philippines in Diliman,Quezon City.. We will continue with this program so that the standard with in all discipline of the company continue to enhance our total business

Bridge to Samal

UK firm to build bridge to Samal Island

DAVAO CITY — London-based MCC Capital Projects Ltd. is planning to build a bridge between this city and nearby Samal Island, which should foster more economic activity by making it easier for people and cargoes to reach the Davao mainland.

The company is now in talks with Islamic banks in the Middle East for a funding of at least $120 million, said M. Faisal Kasim, chief executive officer.

"[Funding] has to come from the Middle East [where Muslim banks] are awash with funds," he told a press briefing last week after visiting Samal together with top officials of the company.

The project will be under a build-operate-transfer scheme, Mr. Kasim said. He said that the company would also look at other options, such as floating bonds.

The bridge will pave the way for the company to implement other projects in the island city, Mr. Kasim said.

The bridge was first proposed last year when the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area listed projects that the four countries wanted to implement.

Pangilinan tollway firm to spend P40B on infra projects this year

PANGILINAN-LED Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. will spend about P40 billion on infrastructure projects this year.

Vehicle overpass on c-5 road in Pasig

Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman of Metro Pacific Tollways — formerly First Philippine Infrastructure, Inc. — said P2.1 billion would be spent for the construction of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)-Segment 8.1, which will link it to the C-5 Road.

Construction will start in March and the project is expected to be completed by April 2010.

The NLEX Segment 8.1 is a two-lane, 2.7-kilometer expressway that will link Mindanao Ave. to the NLEX.

Based on the plan, a toll plaza will be built on Mindanao Ave. where motorists can enter and exit the NLEX, effectively easing traffic congestion on the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) Balintawak.

Davao architects optimistic of boom in real property industry

Davao City (15 October) -- Amidst the present economic woes, architects in the region are optimistic that real property industry will bounce back by 2009.

Agatha Ellen Salanatin Valencia, president of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) during the Davao Business Forum held at SM City's MediSpa on Tuesday bared that the prospects of the industry in the succeeding years is on the positive note..

"I am optimistic with how the industry will run by 2009 in Davao at the rate the construction works are going," she said.

UAP vice president Francisco Hidalgo said there is really a boom in the construction industry with the coming in of big projects especially in the key cities of Mindanao.

History

RCM FAREAST Design and Build was established through the merger of RMANTEDAV Engineering Services and Rey Mante Fibersteel and Construction, both companies owned by Mr. Rey C. Mante, a registered Civil Engineer and Junior Geodetic Engineer in the Philippines.

Rey Mante Fibersteel and Construction was established in December 1998 concentrating on building construction and manufacturing. RMANTEDAV Engineering Services was a sub-contractor of civil design services of a US based engineering company from year 2002 to 2005. Prior to that, he worked with DMJM International and was assigned as a Civil Engineer in the design and construction of Davao International Airport Development Project, Davao City, Philippines from 1996 to 1999.
